In The Power of Language, renowned cognitive scientist Viorica Marian explores the science behind how knowing more than one language shapes the way we think, act, and engage with the world. Drawing on decades of pioneering research, the book reveals how multilingualism can enhance creativity, improve executive function, protect against cognitive decline, and transform our social and personal lives.

About the Author (Dr. Viorica Marian)

Dr. Viorica Marian is a psycholinguist, cognitive scientist, psychologist, and author. She is the Ralph and Jean Sundin Endowed Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University, where she directs the Bilingualism and Psycholinguistics Research Laboratory.

Dr. Marian holds a PhD and Master’s degree from Cornell University, a Master’s degree from Emory University, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska. An elected fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Psychonomic Society, her work has been recognized with honors including the AAAS John P. McGovern Award in the Behavioral Sciences, the Psychonomic Society Mid-Career Award, and the Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring.
