Accreditation: ICLS is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). This means that ICLS adheres to a set of standards that assure quality instruction and services to our English and foreign language students. We are the only school in the Washington DC area that has both its English and foreign language programs accredited. ICLS is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien students and is designated by the U.S. Department of State as a sponsor of an Exchange Visitor Program. International students and interns can attend ICLS as F-1 students or J-1 participants.
Teachers: ICLS teachers are professionals with many years of experience teaching ESL and foreign languages in a proficiency-oriented communicative setting. ESL teachers have lived abroad and studied a foreign language; they understand what it takes to learn a language and adjust to a new culture. Foreign language teachers are native speakers with recent exposure to the target language and culture.
Programs: ICLS offers a variety of programs in ESL and over 85 languages that meet the individual learning needs of each of our students.
Friends: Make friends with American students learning foreign languages and practice your foreign language with ESL students from the country where the target language is spoken. All ICLS students share the same amenities in our large facility.
Class Size: Students at ICLS use the target language every day and enjoy many opportunities to practice in and out of class. The Intensive English Program (IEP) class size is no more than 12 students per class.
Community: ICLS is more than a school. Students become part of the ICLS community and we understand that every aspect of their lives–both in and out of the classroom–is important.
Washington D.C.: As a cultural center of the United States, Washington D.C. is an exciting place to be. Washington’s museums are world famous. The Smithsonian, The National Gallery, and the Air & Space Museums are just a few of the museums that students love to visit. Entrance to museums is free!
Housing: ICLS works with a homestay service that helps students find the housing that works best for them. Students can live with a host family, share an apartment, or rent their own apartment.
Activities: ICLS organizes special parties, excursions, and activities, most of which are free-of-charge, including the Wednesday Conversation Club and Thursday Field Trip. Foreign Language teachers organize cultural activities and lunches that feature delicious culinary treats from their native countries.
Location: ICLS is in the heart of the city. The school’s location is only a few blocks from the White House, within walking distance of the Washington Monument and museums, Embassy Row, and wonderful shopping and restaurants.
