At Cornell University, linguistic and medical researchers have used MRI scanning to analyze the positioning of the mouth in preparation for vocal responses. Though initially interested purely in cognitive linguistics, researchers now hope to use this research to better understand cognition and speech with applications in treating neurological disorders or trauma.
